The artists taking the stage on August 6 in Mont-Carmel!

The Mont-Carmel Summer Concert Series continues every Sunday night of the summer until August 27 at the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall.

The artists who will take the stage of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall on Sunday, August 6, are La Famille LeBlanc from New Brunswick, Island Country singer/songwriter Lawrence Maxwell and Island fiddler Cynthia MacLeod.

For La Famille LeBlanc, it is essential to preserve, share and pass down traditions.  This family performs 19th century tunes deeply rooted into Celtic and Acadian traditions and mostly unknown to other Celtic nations such as Ireland, Britain and Scotland to name but a few. Robin, his wife Rebecca and their three daughters Charlotte, Rosalie and Mélodie spend countless hours performing songs and tunes from the Acadian repertoire in order to introduce them to the rest of the world.  La Famille LeBlanc’s music comes from their Acadian culture and represents styles from various parts of the world including the Acadian Peninsula in Gaspésie, Chéticamp, Memramcook, Prince Edward Island, the Magdalen Islands, Newfoundland and all the way to Poitou in France.  La Famille LeBlanc consists of Charlotte on the fiddle, stepdancing and vocals, Rosalie on the concertina, vocals and stepdancing, Mélodie on the flute and stepdancing, their mother Rebecca on the bodhràn and vocals and their father Robin on the piano and fiddle.

Lawrence Maxwell is a Country singer/songwriter from Prince Edward Island.  He currently has three albums to his name: Not Your Outlaw released in 2018, Almost Natural released in 2020 and, his most recent album Ballad of Miles, released in 2022.  His most recent album was nominated for 7 Music PEI Awards.  Furthermore, his latest recording is compared to the sounds and styles of both John Prine and Merle Haggard and Roots Music Canada dubbed it as one of the best Canadian all-country albums of 2022.  If Merle Haggard’s blue-collar poetry was performed by George Jones’ voice along with Sturgill Simpson’s boundary-shattering brashness, the result would be Lawrence Maxwell and his album Ballad Of Miles.

Cynthia MacLeod is one of Prince Edward Island’s finest ambassadors of traditional music, with a distinct style of fiddling that embraces both her local roots and her ancestral connection to the Scottish Highlands.  Since the beginning of her career as a young teenager, Cynthia has spent more than two decades on stages in PEI, across Canada, and around the world. Her first album was released in 2002.  She has released a total of four critically-acclaimed studio albums and one live CD/DVD package, garnering regional awards and nominations along the way.  With her unique style and boundless energy, Cynthia MacLeod has carved out her place in the Canadian folk music scene and in the hearts of every audience she has entertained.

The show will start at 7:00 p.m. and the doors of the Mont-Carmel Parish Hall (5786 Route 11, Mont-Carmel) open at 6:15 p.m. During the evening, spectators will be able to buy 50/50 tickets and the canteen will be open. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for members of our Cooperative, $5 for students and free for preschoolers. Given that seating is limited, folks are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at cdcpmc.eventbrite.com.  If any tickets are left, they will be made available for purchase at the door on the night of the show.  Spectators can also purchase their tickets on site for all other shows this summer.

The mandate of the Coopérative de développement culturel et patrimonial de Mont-Carmel is to showcase, develop and promote the rich cultural heritage of Mont-Carmel.
