Emergency first aid training coming to Wellington Oct. 3

WELLINGTON - “Accident don’t always happen near a hospital. That’s why first aid training is so important. If you don’t know what to do when someone gets hurts, you should plan on taking a first aid course,” suggests C&M First Aid Training.

Certified instructors from the Summerside-based company will be delivering a full-day course in emergency first aid and CPR – Level C (in English) in the Bienvenue Évangéline room of the Place du Village mini-mall in Wellington Tuesday, Oct. 3, starting at 8 a.m.

C&M First Aid Training, owned and operated by Claude and Myrna Gavin, has more than 20 years of experience in first aid training. Their company works in partnership with the Canadian Red Cross and the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

This basic one-day course offers an overview of first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace. It includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines and meets Occupational Health & Safety regulations for basic first aid. It exceeds competitors’ standards by including injury prevention content, CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED). Everyone who successfully passes this course becomes certified for a three-year period and receives a certification card and an optional wall certificate.

Participants will learn about basic assessment and how to handle airway emergencies, breathing and circulation emergencies, first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest and wound care, as well as other facets of emergency care required by PEI legislation.

A maximum of 18 trainees can be accepted into the Oct. 3 course. Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for registrations is Sept. 27. Extra names will be placed on a waiting list. The registration fee is $95 (tax included) and payable directly to C&M.
