Children's drawing contest planned for 2023 Co-op and Small Business Week

WELLINGTON – Sept. 21, 2023 – As part of 2023 Co-op and Small Business Week, all children from kindergarten to Grade 6 are invited to enter a drawing contest on the theme "My Favourite Business or Co-op" for a chance to win a beautiful red scooter, courtesy of the Wellington Co-op, or a host of other exciting prizes.

The aim of the contest is to encourage children to discuss with their parents and grandparents the importance of these co-ops and businesses to the local economy, from the perspective of the services and products they provide, the jobs they create, and the charitable contributions they make to the community.

Children (or their parents/guardians) can obtain a bilingual participation sheet from Évangéline School, the Wellington Co-op or the Wellington Rural Action Centre, or download and print it from https://tinyurl.com/3smh7wr3 .

Participants will be required to fill in some basic information and draw their picture. The children are encouraged to be creative in their drawings. They don't have to limit themselves to drawing the building of the chosen co-op or business. They can, for example, draw an employee doing his or her job, or a customer coming in to request for a service.

They must submit their entry either to their teacher at Évangéline School by October 13, or directly to the Wellington Co-op by Oct. 16. All drawings will be displayed on the store walls for the duration of Co-op and Small Business Week (Oct. 16-20).

Contest organizers will then hold random draws on Friday, Oct. 20, to determine the winners of the various prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the winners on Monday, Oct. 23.

The contest is organized jointly by Wellington Co-op, MacDonald Insurance and Investments - The Co-operators, the Conseil scolaire-communautaire Évangéline, the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI, Provincial Credit Union, the Wellington Rural Action Centre and RDÉE Prince Edward Island.
