WELLINGTON – Feb. 6, 2024 – Employers from the private and non-profit sectors wishing to learn more about SkillsPEI’s summer student programs for 2024, including Jobs for Youth and the Post-Secondary Student Program, are invited to attend a lunch-and-learn at the Wellington Rural Action Centre (RAC) on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 12 noon. Interested parties may attend in person or online via Zoom.

This event is being cohosted by the Wellington RAC and the Acadian and Francophone Chamber of Commerce of PEI. A light meal will be served to those in attendance. The presentation will be given in English.

Robin Dann, program officer intern with SkillsPEI’s Charlottetown office, will give an overview of the programs and explain how employers and students can qualify to participate in or benefit from them. Since beginning with SkillsPEI in the summer of 2019, Dann has worked in almost every program the agency offers; she is currently leading the Post-Secondary Student Program. 

Jobs for Youth, delivered through the Employment Development Agency (EDA), supports students aged 15-29 working 8-12 weeks during summer. Participating students must be returning to school in the fall. 

The Post-Secondary Student Program supports full-time post-secondary students working a minimum of 12 to a maximum of 18 weeks during the summer. The focus of this program is on providing participations with “experiential learning opportunities”. Students must be entering or returning to full-time post-secondary studies in the fall.  

Both programs provide wage subsidies. Applications open this month.

Those interested in participating in the lunch-and-learn must sign up by Monday, Feb. 19, by contacting Josée Arsenault at josee@rdeeipe.org or at 902-854-3439. The registration fee is $5 for those wishing to attend in person and have the meal. Participation via Zoom will be free.
