Benefit night planned for Paul “à Gérard” Arsenault March 23

WELLINGTON – March 3, 2024 – The family and friends of Paul “à Gérard” Arsenault from St. Gilbert (formerly of Cape Egmont) are inviting everyone to come out to the benefit night they are planning for him Saturday, March 23, at the Wellington Royal Canadian Legion.

The evening will feature an auction, a 50-50 draw, a scratch-ticket raffle as well as entertainment by local performers Marcel Caissie and Allan Gallant and guests. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the door.

Arsenault has recently completed a round of radiation treatments for cancer. He also has severe hip problems, which make it quite difficult and painful to move, along with various other medical issues. Well-known as a drywaller throughout Prince and Queens Counties, the usually hard-working Paul has not been able to work for quite some time. In fact, because of his condition, his doctors are unsure if he’ll ever be able to work again.

“Paul has always been there to help other people when they were going through difficult times, giving generously of his time and money to make things easier for others. So we, the members of his family and his community, feel it is only right that we be there for him now that he’s going through a rough patch,” notes this family.

The evening will begin at 7:30 for the viewing of auction items. Several thousand dollars worth of merchandise and gift certificates of all kinds have been donated by numerous businesses and individuals. Paul’s brother, Raymond J. Arsenault, will auction off the items, starting at 8 p.m. Attendees will be able to bid on everything from power tools, hardware, small kitchen appliances, office supplies, blankets, food storage containers, knitted items, handcrafted items, hair products, spices and promotional items to gift baskets and gift certificates for all kinds of products and services, ranging from hair cuts, massages and gasoline to meals, meats and shellfish, along with hotel stays and septic tank cleanings.

The scratch-ticket raffle will offer as a main prize at least $150 worth of scratch tickets. The raffle tickets and the ones for the 50-50 draw will sell for $2 each or three for $5.

The country-folk-rock duo of Marcel Caissie and Allan Gallant, well-known in the Evangeline area, will entertain the crowd following the auction. A few guests are also expected to perform. Any other musical artists wishing to give of their time to sing a song or two or play a couple of tunes will also be welcomed.

Please note that a bar service will be offered, therefore the event is reserved for those aged 19 years and over.

Anyone wishing to make a donation but unable to attend the benefit night may do so at the Evangeline Branch of the Provincial Credit Union in Wellington anytime or at the Wellington Legion anytime between Monday, March 18, and Saturday, March 23.
